Unbiased Light Transport Estimators for Inhomogeneous Participating Media

چکیده
In this supplementary material we provide the details of the single scattering methods that use the medium manipulation scheme proposed in the paper entitled “Unbiased Light Transport Estimators for Inhomogeneous Participating Media”. 1. Single scattering of point source lighting In this supplementary document we consider a practically important special case of participating media rendering, the computation of single scattering of the light of a point source located at~l (Figure 1). As area lights can be approximated by many point sources, and multiple scattering can be simulated by introducing Virtual Point Lights [ENSD12], this basic operation can be extended to a complete global illumination renderer. We take the adjoint approach and implement path tracing, thus traced particles are importons and their weight E will be the visual importance.

Metropolis Light Transport for Participating Media
In this paper we show how Metropolis Light Transport can be extended both in the underlying theoretical framework and the algorithmic implementation to incorporate volumetric scattering. We present a generalization of the path integral formulation that handles anisotropic scattering in non-homogeneous media. Based on this framework we introduce a new mutation strategy that is specifically desig...
متن کاملExtended Path Integral Formulation for Volumetric Transport
We propose an extension of the path integral formulation amenable to the expression of volumetric light transport with photon beam estimates. Our main contribution is a generalization of Hachisuka et al.’s extended path space formulation [HPJ12] to light transport in participating media. Our formulation supports various pointand beam-based volumetric density estimators, unifying them with path ...
متن کاملOptimal Control of Light Propagation Governed by Eikonal Equation within Inhomogeneous Media Using Computational Adjoint Approach
A mathematical model is presented in the present study to control the light propagation in an inhomogeneous media. The method is based on the identification of the optimal materials distribution in the media such that the trajectories of light rays follow the desired path. The problem is formulated as a distributed parameter identification problem and it is solved by a numerical met...
متن کاملToward Optimal Space Partitioning for Unbiased, Adaptive Free Path Sampling of Inhomogeneous Participating Media
Photo-realistic rendering of inhomogeneous participating media with light scattering in consideration is important in computer graphics, and is typically computed using Monte Carlo based methods. The key technique in such methods is the free path sampling, which is used for determining the distance (free path) between successive scattering events. Recently, it has been shown that efficient and ...
متن کاملComparative analysis of discrete and continuous absorption weighting estimators used in Monte Carlo simulations of radiative transport in turbid media.
We examine the relative error of Monte Carlo simulations of radiative transport that employ two commonly used estimators that account for absorption differently, either discretely, at interaction points, or continuously, between interaction points. We provide a rigorous derivation of these discrete and continuous absorption weighting estimators within a stochastic model that we show to be equiv...
